  • Magic Charm has been adjusted to not force the effect anymore and now also add a status symbol: Add 1 status symbol to all attack rolls of the holder while the holder is inflicted with a status effect. Season 0 - Arrivals
v[0]-1.0.0

Pokémon: Seasons - Arrivals

The full release of Pokémon: Seasons is right around the corner, but until then we want to test all the changes and improvements that have been in development for the past few months. For this reason, we are hosting a Season 0 release over the course of a few weeks to see how the new systems are received and work out so we can make final tweaks and changes before the full release with Season 1 is announced.

The following list contains the most noteworthy changes made to the table compared to the pre-release version. The pre-release was used as a testing ground to see how some of the ideas the team had would work out and how well players like them. Based on feedback and our hundreds of hours playing the table, a lot of adjustments have been made to make the table easier to navigate and game easier to play and enjoy without losing the "Seasons" feeling that we originally aimed to create.

While finishing the final steps in the development process of the table, quite a few intended changes mentioned in the preliminary notes have been cut, reworked or removed since the changes did not hit their intended goal.

Content explicitely added by Keepsakes are not part of these patchnotes and information about it will be available at a later time.

  • Some traits cannot be removed or 'minted' (Turned into an On Demand item)
  • Alpha Pokémon and Tera Raid Pokémon now spawn with corresponding traits instead of a held item
  • Pokémon that have a Mega Evolution or Gigantamax form now require a specific trait to change forms
  • The complete list of available traits can be found in the Database.

Status Effects

  • The following changes have been made to status effects (compared to the Legends of Sinnoh base game)
    • Confused now also deals 3 damage to the Pokémon when using a second move in the same turn (in addition to same move in a row)
    • The attack strength bonus against Frozen Pokémon is reduced to 1 (from 2)
    • Drowsy is changed to disallow the Pokémon to use their held item. In addition, the Pokémon battle fatigue increases by 2 when attacking
  • A special status effect called 'Dazzling' has been added. This status effect is exclusively added to specific encounters and cannot be applied during battle.
    • The Pokémon is immune to other status efects
    • The held item and ability of the Pokémon cannot be disabled
    • The Pokémon does not take damage from battle fatigue

Capture Rates

  • The overall capture rate of Pokémon is increased
    • This varies between campaigns
  • The following additional capture rules have been established:
    • An additional capture dice is rolled against wild encounters with 3 (or less) health remaining
    • Applied status effects add 1 regular hit (each) to capture rolls
    • All equipped (in-battle) Razz Berries may trigger for a capture attempt
  • Decreasing the base capture rate of wild encounters differs between campaigns

Hidden Spots & Nodes

    • Training Target (replaced by Silver Bottle Caps)
  •  Existing Nodes have been reworked and new Nodes have been added:
    • Paldean Stabilizer → Wild encounters spawn with traits more often, but are less likely to have abilities or consumables
    • Paldean Destabilizer → Wild encounters spawn with abilities and consumables more often but are less likely to have traits
    • Nightsky Telescope → Chance to spawn Hidden Spots nearby every turn, but whilst face-up, new Fallen Stars cannot be added to the overworld
    • Ribbon Stand → Turns a trait into a mint for a fee ("Minting")
    • Terastal Den → Nearby Apricorn Trees/Reefs are more likely to generate Terastal Pokémon more likely, but these encounters have less options to choose from
    • Glitter Key → Used for Glitter Anomaly (see 'Anomalies')
  • The cost for picking up Nodes has been decreased from 5 to 2 Journey Points

Events

  • World Events and World Event cards have been removed
  • Regional States replace the previous World Event functionalities
  • The Weather state:
    • 9 different weather types are available. Each increases the encounter rate of two different Pokémon types. Additionally, Pokémon from a specific Biome are more likely to be Terastal.
  • The Folklore state:
    • Changes interactions with Shrines and general map tokens
  • The Event state:
    • Temporary bonuses for various interactions on the table, including trades, shrines, wild encounters and campaign progression
  • All states are visible in the overview panels of players for easy notice
  • Weather and Folklore states are changed upon encountering specific Inbalance shrine events
  • In addition, players now have a "Standing" state that can be changed in villages (in most campaigns) for a fee
    • Standings provide an ongoing effect for the player until they change to a different Standing

Discoveries

The following discoveries have been adjusted:

  • Settlements
    • The trade offers in settlements have been rebalanced:
      • Cities stay the same and offer Apricorns, berries and Poké Balls only
      • Villages are more likely to offer Peach Apricorns, common On Demand items and Artifacts
      • Ports now have 3 trade offers to choose from and are more likely to generate Exotic items and rare On Demand items
    • 'Unique' trades generate more intuitively placed and have an additional indicator
    • Cherish Balls can no longer be acquired from trades
  • Wild Encounters
    • Wild encounters may generate with traits, an ability and consumables
      • Traits are applied when the encounter is first generated
      • Abilities and consumables are applied when an encounter is chosen
    • Auto-Catch no longer requires players to move Poké Balls to the discovery. Instead a corresponding zone is provided near the Poké Ball storage in player areas
      • Only 5 Poké Balls may be used for Auto-Catch at any given time
    • The additional move pool for Alpha and Tera Raid Pokémon has been reworked
  • Shrines
    • Imbalance events cannot generate as the first card during shrine events anymore
    • A new scripted type of Shrine cards, the 'Shrine Rumors' have been added.
      • These events are rare but have unique scripted effects when chosen
  • Legendary Shrines
    • Act like regular shrines with increased chance to generate Imbalance and Rumor events
    • When players are under the effect of the 'Box of Treats' On Demand item, Legendary Shrines will generate a wild Legendary Pokémon encounter instead
      • Each (of the 9) Legendary Shrine has 2 preferred types. Legendary Pokémon of those types are more likely to generate
      • Players may learn the signature move of defeated Legendary Pokémon when offering a Peach Apricorn
        • In this case, the signature move is granted as attack card and the Pokémon is returned to the Legendary Pokémon deck

Anomalies

  • General anomaly interactions have been simplified and randomly spawning anomalies have been removed
  • Anomalies now have 4 dedicated positions on the overworld to appear at and replace the previous Cave Tokens (now Sealed Caves)
    • If all Sealed Caves are occupied with anomalies, no additional anomaly can spawn
  • When an anomaly spawns, the Sealed Cave is changed to the correspondong anomaly and a Treasure of Ruin Pokémon token is placed on top.
    • Every Treasure of Ruin Pokémon has their own anomaly
  • The following anomalies are available going forward:
    • Rift Anomaly (Chien-Pao)
      • Requires a specific Pokémon offering to close (usually a Pokémon of a specific type)
      • The offered Pokémon is discarded
      • While active, wild encounters are less likely to have abilities or consumables
    • Glitter Anomaly (Chi-Yu)
      • 3 new Nodes are added to the map whenever a Glitter Anomaly spawns and all Nodes are shuffled and placed face-down on the overworld.
      • One of these Nodes is a 'Glitter Key' Node required to close the Glitter Anomaly
      • While active, players are less likely to generate Bonus Events during discoveries
    • Greed Anomaly (Wo-Chien)
      • Requires a specific set of consumables as offering (mostly common berries)
      • While active, rare trade offers are less likely to generate in settlements
    • Distortion Anomaly (Ting-Lu)
      • While active, wild encounters may generate with the Distortion trait.
      • A Pokémon with the Distortion trait is required to close the anomaly. In this case, the Distortion trait is replaced by a random rare trait.
      • While active, the number of options to choose from during wild encounters is reduced
  • Every type of anomaly can exist multiple times at once
    • In this case, the negative effect stacks for every anomaly of the same type
  • When closing an anomaly, new Hidden Spots appear in the overworld and the player that closed the anomaly may fight the corresponding Treasure of Ruin Pokémon
    • This Pokémon is always Terastal (random type) and has an ability, consumable and the Ruined trait.
    • This encounter can be redone for every closed anomaly, even if the Pokémon was captured before (static encounters)
  • Players holding 3 matching Ruined Treasure cards in their hand are immune to the negative effects of the corresponding active anomalies.

Encounter Generator

  • The encounter generator has been visually overhauled and each side of the battle arena has their own generator now
  • Generation logic of NPC battles has been greatly improved
    • Bad move and ability combinations are much less likely to generate on important campaign battle
    • NPC battles can generate Terastal Pokémon and Pokémon with traits
  • Held items have been moved to a designated zone for easier management
  • NPC battles can generate with 'Battle Boons' to increase the strength of the battle opponent (see Database)
    • Battle boons provide additional effects to the NPC party before or during battle
    • These may also affect the generated party itself and increases the potential of the generated party

Keepsakes

Campaign - Nova Academia

As the spiritual successor of the pre-release campaign 'Victory Road' a new campaign has been created and added to this release, replacing the 'Victory Road' campaign. 'Nova Academia' is a turn limited free roam campaign to ease players into the table functionalities of Pokémon: Seasons. The goal (in all variations) is to collect as many badges (of 18 available) as possible before the Academy Finals begin after three evaluation periods. Players are free to choose what badges (and in which order) to acquire to help them place high during the Academy Finals.

Campaign Content

  • Players take the role of students of the Paldean Academy in Mesagoza and are tasked to prepare for the upcoming Academy Finals
  • In order to strengthen their knowledge of Pokémon and battles, players should aim to acquire badges from the different sources available to unlock new features and make exploration and team building easier
  • When the campaign is started, 18 badges (one of each type) are randomly assigned to:
    • 8 gyms in all cities, except Mesagoza
    • 5 Titan Pokémon
    • 5 Team Star Hideouts
  • 5 Titan Caves tokens are randomly placed on the overworld (from a selection of pre-defined valid locations)
